Tesla (TSLA.US) will announce its second-quarter results on Wednesday (22nd), with the market believing the EV legacy is facing an increasingly challenging operating environment.
Despite a seemingly resilient macro environment, a combination of fundamental headwinds, competitive pressure and elevated valuation expectations has led the market to see higher downside risks ahead of the earnings release.
Tesla previously reported second-quarter sales and delivery data that easily exceeded market expectations, yet the share price subsequently declined.
The share price reflects alarmingly high market expectations, where outperforming expectations has become the minimum requirement. If beating delivery targets still fails to drive the stock higher, even earnings merely meeting or slightly beating expectations may still trigger a muted response from Wall Street.
